This sort of idiocy makes my head hurt:
Shira Goodman is executive director of CeaseFire PA, which is involved in a new push to pass background check legislation in Pennsylvania. She was interviewed by telephone as she prepared for Tuesday night’s telephone town hall on gun violence prevention strategies.
Those strategies include passage of a House bill that would expand the current Pennsylvania background check system for handgun buyers to include buyers of long guns, such as rifles and shotguns.
“It seems to fit,” Goodman said of the bill and the Pagerly tragedy. “This is a case that might have been different, had this law been enacted.”
Pagerly was shot to death by Matthew Connor, 25, on June 29, 2011, using a semiautomatic AK-47 rifle. Connor was then killed by a state trooper.
Last week, a weapons case against the man accused of selling the AK-47 to Connor ended in a mistrial. Connor was not eligible under state law to purchase the gun because he had been convicted of a felony as a juvenile.
Goodman is seriously arguing that Matthew Connor, who has already been in prison for a felony conviction and was already legally barred from owning any firearm, and who was willing to commit first-degree murder, would have been stopped by the expansion of yet another law that he would have also ignored.
Where do they find these people?
More importantly, why does anyone take them seriously?
